CREATIVE THINKING LESSON ONE: Plagiarism
LANGUAGE ARTS - Standard 4: Gathers and uses information for research purposes. Topics 1/2: Writing format/research. Benchmark 9: Understands the meaning and consequences of plagiarism and distinguishes own ideas from others.
CREATIVE THINKING LESSON TWO: Copyright, Fair Use, and Respect
TECHNOLOGY - Standard 3: Science, technology, society, and the individual. Topic: Ethics, the law, and technology. Benchmark 6: Copyright violations and possible penalties.
LANGUAGE ARTS - Standard 10: Media characteristics and components. Benchmark 11: Ethical responsibility. Knowledge/skill statement 4: Understands copyright laws.
CAREER/BUSINESS EDUCATION - Standard 11: Electronic communications and information systems legal implications. Level IV(3): Knows copyright and trademark laws.
CIVICS - Standard 3: Sources, purposes, and functions of law. Standard 8: American constitutional government.

CREATIVE THINKING LESSON ONE: Plagiarism
LIBRARY RESEARCH - Standard 5: Information, Social Context, and Ethical and Legal Issues. Assessing Academic Integrity, Plagiarism, and Scholarly Accountability – Francois Performance Indicator 5.3: Acknowledges use of information sources in communicating the product or performance. Outcome 5.2.f: Demonstrates an understanding of what constitutes plagiarism and does not represent work attributable to others as his/her own.
CREATIVE THINKING LESSON TWO: Copyright, Fair Use, and Respect
Standard 5: Information, Social Context, and Ethical and Legal Issues. Assessing Compliance with Information Policies, Laws, and Regulations – Francois Performance Indicator 5.1: Ethical and legal awareness. Outcome 5.1.d: Demonstrates an understanding of intellectual property, copyright, and fair use of copyrighted materials. Performance Indicator 5.2: Follows laws, policies, and etiquette of access/use of info. Outcome 5.2.e: Legally obtains, stores, and disseminates text, database, images, or sounds.

Policies re: copyright and plagiarism; Standards for the 21st-Century Learner (2007) 1.3.3; 1.3.4; 1.3.5 - Responsibilities related to respecting copyright/intellectual property rights of creators and producers; Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning (1998) by the American Association of School Librarians - Primarily Standard 8, Indicator 2: Respects intellectual property rights (understands fair use and plagiarism).
NCTE/IRA's Standards for the English Language Arts
CREATIVE THINKING LESSON ONE & TWO
Standard 5: Students employ a wide range of strategies as they write and use different writing process elements appropriately to communicate with different audiences for a variety of purposes.
Standard 6: Students apply knowledge of language structure, language conventions (e.g., spelling and punctuation), media techniques, figurative language, and genre to create, critique, and discuss print and nonprint texts.
Standard 7: Students conduct research on issues and interests by generating ideas and questions, and by posing problems. They gather, evaluate, and synthesize data from a variety of sources (e.g., print and nonprint texts, artifacts, people) to communicate their discoveries in ways that suit their purpose and audience.
Standard 8: Students use a variety of technological and information resources (e.g., libraries, databases, computer networks, video) to gather and synthesize information and to create and communicate knowledge.
Standard 11: Students participate as knowledgeable, reflective, creative, and critical members of a variety of literary communities.
Standard12: Students use spoken, written, and visual language to accomplish their own purposes (e.g., for learning, enjoyment, persuasion, and the exchange of information).
